CAROLYN DERSTINE

Analysis of Derstine's work

This photograph has a spherical composition, the plant has an orange centre that fades into white. The plant itself is round and the plant looks like it is made up of circles. All of the lines in this photograph lead towards the centre of the plant and the centre of the photograph. This photograph was taken with a very shallow depth of field. The part of the plant close to the viewer is in focus and the back is blurry. The angle that the photograph was taken was from above, the stalk isn't visible because it is under the orange centre of the plant. The colours used in this photograph are very contrasting, the white flowers stand out from the black background and the orange centre stands out very clearly from the flowers and the background.
